56 The Right Nurse for the Job


I.                  Case Backround
Frances Matthews, the director of clinical services at Appalachian Home Health Service, Inc. (AHHS). Was concerned. AHHS needed to hire a nurse quickly. One of the staff nurses had just handed in her resignation bcause her husband was being transferred out of state. The nurse who was leaving gave AHHS two weeks notice, which complied with the agency policy; however, it still left the agency in a bind. Frances knew that recruiting and interviewing of home health nurses was a time-consuming process, and, even after a nurse was hired, several weeks of orientation usually weree requared before the nurse could perform independently. She knew that all of the regular staff  were working to capacity, and that the loss of even one nurse at this time would have major implications.

Appalachian Home Health Service, Inc. is a private, non-for-profit home health agency, located in a rural area of a midwestren state. The stated purpose of AHHS its to provide healthcare service at home, to elderly and disabled individuals, and a person with a short-term, spesific healthcare need that could be handled at home. AHHS reseives all (100 persent) of its revenue from billed services. As a private organization, it does not receive government subsidies or tax support.
Margaret Jenskin, they called to express interest in this position. Margaret Jenskin was registered nurse with a BSN from a local university. She had been working for the past eight year for Dr. Edward Smith, prior to that time, she was state mental health center. And then she was hardworking, responsible, profesional, and got along well with patient, staff and physiciants. But Margaret was invvolved in a domestic violence situation in her home, Margaret was phsically attaccked and the argument ended in the death of her husband. Margaret was charged with murder. And than Margaret was in prison,and than The state board of nursing had revoled her license to practice nursing (standard practice for convicted felons).

  

II.               Problem In Case
# Problem Statement
1.     What specific factors must the directors considere deciding whether to hire Margaret Jenskins?
2.     If AHHS does not hire Ms. Jenskins, does she have grounds for legal action?
3.     What could AHHS have done to increase the number of application?
4.     What selection device did AHHS use? How valid are they? What other methods could they use?

# Solve of Problem
Ahhs board of directors in hiring a nurse they they know that it need long lime to get a new one. Here, ahhs board of directors apply some technique.  According to theory they use background investigation and reference check. At first they need to identify their what kind person who they want, in hire margaret jenskins, they need to consider about the condition of ahhs itself. That there is no enough time to found the best one. That because only 2 person that respon their ad. If they are not recriute new nurse that will be affect to te organzation performance in service their patient.
# SWOT analysis
-    STRENGTH
AHHS has grown, relatively obscure healthcare organization into a diversified As private organization. Its mean this organization had doing good progress of the programe to become the best organization in that time.

The strength it they has good planning and identify the case to find some nurse, because they need. But Frances and Kate was confuced to take decision, to receive the new nurse or not. Because the new nurse have some problem with her license to practise nursing. Because violence in her home, and her lose her husband.and than her was in prison.





-    WEAKNESS

The AHHS.  Frances and Kate was confuced to take decision, to receive the new nurse or not. But she was hardworking, responsible, profesional, and got along well with patient, staff and physiciants. But Margaret was involved in a domestic violence situation in her home, Margaret was phsically attaccked and the argument ended in the death of her husband



-          OPPORTUNITY
AHHS is a good Home Health because they had increase they ability to give a job opportunity for the employee.  And its additional value for them because eventhought they have a problem with to find to hire some nurse they still have chalanges to got a right person that will have great ability but Frances and Kate was confuced to take decision, to receive the nurse or not.

-          TRATS
According to the problem that the AHHS had before, they should repair the way to doing the programe because its really important. If there is no chosee her for this case it will be a big problem and the AHHS will lost her,because her was hardworking, responsible, profesional, and got along well with patient, staff and physiciants.


III.           Case in related Theory
For This case, AHHS really need one nurse, so they use advertisement on the news paper, but just two people to responses the advertisement. One was a resume from student at nearby technical college. The college had two-year (associate degree) registered nurse program, and the applicant was in the last quarter of her secon year.and then Frances not to interview this applicant because they need a good skill for this type work.
And the other applicant, Margaret Jenskin, they called to express interest in this position. Margaret Jenskin was registered nurse with a BSN from a local university. IV.           Conclution
We think, Margaret will be to receive, because she was hardworking, responsible, profesional, and got along well with patient, staff and physiciants. And than Frances and Kate want to find nurse have ability and good skill. And her have for all.
